SONAR 7 Academic Editions - Designed for Education

The SONAR family provides students with an intuitive environment for recording and editing audio and MIDI, composing with virtual instruments, remixing with loops, and using professional effects and audio processing tools to produce top quality recordings.

SONAR's interface can be fully customized to suit different teaching groups. Younger students can quickly create and arrange musical ideas using a range of sounds from the supplied soft synths. SONAR's sophisticated audio processing tools and surround capabilities also make it an ideal choice for college and university studios, where flexibility and audio quality are key considerations.

About the SONAR Academic Editions

SONAR Studio Edition offers a comprehensive and cost-effective music production package for secondary school Music and Music Technology projects.

SONAR Producer Edition offers an enhanced range of audio tools for further and higher education projects. SONAR 7 programs can be run using Windows XP/Vista (32 and 64-bit) and Mac OS X with Boot Camp

The Academic Editions of SONAR Studio and Producer also include SONAR Music Projects.

Other programs in the SONAR series include SONAR Home Studio / XL, an entry-level version which is ideal for younger students, and SONAR LE (included with many Edirol hardware products).

What Can I Do With SONAR?

Create
  • Record and edit unlimited tracks of audio and MIDI, with effects on input.
  • Create backing tracks with MIDI groove clips and ACID™-format loops.
  • Compose music using thousands of amazing instrument sounds from Dimension LE (including Garritan Pocket Orchestra), Rapture LE, Session Drummer™ 2; TTS-1, Groove Synth and Drop Zone REX sampler.
  • Create video soundtracks.

Edit
  • Edit MIDI in new and intuitive ways with an integrated Step Sequencer, Smart
  • MIDI Tools, and other extensive MIDI enhancements.
  • Use AudioSnap to non-destructively fix audio timing.

Control
  • Customize SONAR’s look and feel for different teaching groups.
  • Connect any Windows-compatible MIDI devices, control surfaces, and WDM or ASIO audio interfaces.
  • Use Active Controller Technology (ACT) for total control of virtual instruments, effects, and mixing from MIDI controllers and control surfaces.
  • Control and automate virtual instruments with the enhanced Synth Rack. Group controls from multiple instruments together for ultimate tweakability.
  • Expand the range of sounds with integrated support for VST, DirectX, and ReWire instruments and effects.

Mix
  • Mix projects with complete flexibility using SONAR's configurable console view and intuitive controls.
  • Use professional effects to enhance the mix: Boost 11 Peak Limiter, Lexicon Pantheon™ Reverb, Sonitus:fx Suite, and more.
  • Automate mix, instrument, and effect parameters with freehand and pattern-based envelopes, and individual read / write control of all tracks, instruments, and effects.
  • Add further mix sophistication with internal sidechaining for Sonitus:fx Compressor, Sonitus:fx Gate, and third party multi-input VST effects.
  • Deliver audio at virtually any bit-depth, and sample rate (up to 64-bit, 500 kHz). Native 64-bit audio is the highest quality in today’s industry.
  • Upload songs directly to the Internet and build song players using Cakewalk Publisher.
  • Burn mixes directly to CD with integrated CD burning. The package includes a 32-bit version for Windows XP/Vista and a 64-bit version for use with Windows Vista x64 Edition.
